Fire and hide! And… hit?! Ikaruga, a cult classic vertical shoot-em-up, switches polarity. Shinra, a renegade pilot who pilots the Ikaruga, fights an antagonistic nation in the video game. This plane can switch between black and white. This polarity mechanic underpins the game’s stage and enemy design, making it its most important feature. This game has only black-and-white enemies and projectiles. The player’s spacecraft absorbs bullets of the same color, but other colors damage it. The player’s homing laser attack gets more robust with each shell. Optimized, this strike can be ten times stronger than a regular shot. Chaining attacks for bonuses can improve scores. Ikaruga is a multiplayer video game.
