Hongo, the Great Book Spirit, imprisoned Bowser and Yoshi’s Island in a pop-up book as part of his plan to end Bowser’s mischievous activities. At the time, Bowser was located on Yoshi’s Island. Yoshi, the dinosaur, was surprised to see the Spirit, who enjoys Unexpected Events, and was informed by it that there is a means to restore Yoshi’s Island. In Yoshi Topsy-Turvy, Yoshi must come to the rescue to win the game. The game is broken up into six different chapters, each with many stages. To assist Yoshi in climbing barriers, unlocking new pathways, and sending adversaries rolling away, the must tilt the world using the tilt sensor. If Yoshi can accomplish all that the Spirits require of him and gain happiness medals, the player can go to the next chapter of the game. Yoshi will undergo metamorphosis along the route, becoming a ship, a ball, and a balloon, respectively.
